Two Harkonnen sisters battle forces that threaten the future of humanity and form the legendary sect that will become known as the Bene Gesserit. Whether they’re exploring the stars, escaping dystopias, or making the world a better place, these women are the essence of science fiction. This series uses material from the Great Schools of Dune trilogy by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson. A prequel to the original Dune, it tells the story of how the Brotherhood of Rossak evolved into the Bene Gesserit. The incident in which Valya Harkonnen uses the voice comes from an incident called “Mentats from Dune.” The three books intertwine the evolution of the Brotherhood, the Mentats, the Navigators, and the Suk doctors. Referenced in AniMats Crazy Cartoon Cast: The New Normal (2020). I don’t want to criticize just the first episode of a TV series, but it was just average throughout. The acting was subpar, except for a few well-known actors like Mark Strong, Emily Watson, Olivia Williams, and maybe Travis Fimmel. The rest of the cast looked like they just came out of film academy or something. The story was very loose and the dialogue wasn’t worthy of Dune. I like slow dramas that take forever to build up because I know it’s worth the wait. But it wasn’t just slow, a lot happened, it was just boring, I don’t know how else to say it. The soundtrack that traveled through the films was copied a little here, familiar sounds pop up here and there but the timing just didn’t fit. Like I heard a lot of music here that had no impact. I remember how we spend a lot of time in films where people talk and then boom, Hans Zimmer does his magic and I’m so excited. But I know he had no hand in creating the sounds here and I don’t even have to check. I’m not sure if Denis Villeneuve was involved in this production, I hope not. My question is: did he even like it being made? After two epic movies, would an average TV series like this have any impact on the long-awaited third movie? I wonder because The Penguin was so good, it made me appreciate Batman even more than I did after watching it, and I can’t wait to see him in the second movie. What impact will Dune: Prophecy have on the third movie, if any? Something to think about.
